Help Monitor the Perch Population in Llyn Padarn
Prosiect Torgoch is planning to establish an annual citizen-led snorkel survey to monitor the trends in the non-native perch population at Llyn Padarn. These surveys will aim to gather data to inform future management strategies and safeguard the lake's biodiversity.
Upcoming SUP Litter Clean Ups on the Menai Strait
This April we have two exciting volunteering events in collaboration with Sian Sykes from Journey with Sian. Taking place on April 11th and April 18th we will be conducting river clean ups by stand up paddle board along the Menai Strait.
Creating Riparian Woodland on the Afon Braint
In March 2024, North Wales Rivers Trust delivered two riparian woodland schemes on the Afon Braint in Southwest Anglesey. The Afon Braint holds special significance as a habitat for both brown and sea trout (Salmo trutta), both designated as UK Priority Species (formally UK BAP).
NWRT Team & volunteers complete Open Water Life Guard Training
Over the weekend Community team members, Oisin and Poppy completed their Open Water Life Guarding qualification alongside two North Wales Rivers Trust volunteers Sifa and Bleddyn. This is a great step towards the delivery of safe Snorkel Survey sessions as part of Prosiect Torgoch.

As part of our Fresh Water Pearl Mussel Project we have been working with Ysgol Bro Hedd Wyn, a local primary school to engage the pupils in the project and to help us raise awareness for this endangered species that lives right on their doorstep!
Afon Cegin project launches with river clean up
Yesterday, we hosted the first community volunteer day for our new project on the Afon Cegin. Our volunteers made a real impact, removing all sorts of rubbish, from single-use plastics to full rolls of carpet from the riverside.

Local school onboard with Fresh Water Pearl Mussel project
Last week we visited Ysgol Bro Hedd Wyn in Trawsfynydd to speak to the pupils about Fresh Water Pearl Mussels. The pupils learnt about North Wales Rivers Trust and the work that is taking place to improve the habitat for Fresh Water Pearl Mussels and other species in their local area.
120 more trees planted along the Afon Eden
Over the weekend, we were joined by Bangor University students for a community tree planting day. Together we planted a further 120 native trees along the Afon Eden, as part of our Fresh Water Pearl Mussel Project.
Fantastic turnout for Menai Strait Partnership Forum meeting
Last night we held the second meeting of the Menai Strait Partnership Forum. There was a fantastic turnout with general members of the public, business owners and students all coming together to help us shape the future of the forum.
Prosiect Torgoch's Water Quality Initiative at Llyn Cwellyn
As part of Prosiect Torgoch we will be delivering a comprehensive water quality monitoring programme at Llyn Cwellyn. The lake is located near Rhyd Ddu below the summit of Eryri and contains one of only three natural populations of torgoch (Arctic charr) in Wales.
Rhosneigr Community Engages with Floating Wetlands Project!
Today, we hosted a drop-in session for the Rhosneigr community and local businesses to delve into the details of our Floating Wetlands pilot project. It was great to see that members of the community were eager to learn about the project's objectives and sign up to participate in the monitoring of the project.
Beaumaris beach clean success
Over the weekend we joined forces with members of the Bangor University Students Union, for a beach clean-up in Beaumaris. This collaborative effort was great fun and made a real impact on the beach.
