Role Summary

Job title: River intern

Location of job: Mix of office (Brynrefail) and home-based working with with regular working across North Wales Rivers.

Post holder reports to: Programme Manager

Salary: National Living Wage £12.71 per hour (6% employer pension contribution)

Position type: Fixed term contract from June until September - 4/5 days per week

Working arrangements: Standard working hours are from 9:00 - 17:30 with some flexible and weekend work required. Travel allowance will be provided.

Overall purpose of the job:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and supportive team in a starter role to help you into a career in conservation. You will be working on projects that will make a real and lasting difference, helping save our rivers and the species that rely on them.

You will support our busy, active team out in the catchment and gain a taste of the full range and scope of river conservation work and community engagement.

You must be aged 18 or over to apply for this role.

You will assist with things like farm visits, water quality surveys, woodland planting and river habitat restoration. You will be trained to undertake wildlife surveys and support scientific research through fieldwork and technical analysis. You will support our community engagement activities; inspiring children as you help with school workshops, and helping people get involved through volunteer tasks. You will help promote our work by writing about your experiences and sharing these reflections on our social media channels and website.

As this job involves regulated activity with children, an Enhanced DBS check will need to be undertaken by the successful candidate prior to employment.

Awareness of and commitment towards current environmental issues. ✔

Able to learn quickly and pick up new skills and concepts. ✔

Willingness to ‘get stuck in’ to help complete tasks. ✔

Great communication skills. ✔

Experience using IT software including email, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and videoconference apps. ✔

Enjoyment of practical ‘hands-on’ work, and spending time outdoors. ✔

Able to work co-operatively as part of a team. ✔

A full UK driving license, with access to a personal vehicle (a travel allowance will

be provided). ✔

Welsh language (desirable)
