River Project officer

Role Summary

Job title: River Project Officer
Location: Hybrid- Home based with monthly meetings in person and work directly on the rivers. 
Post holder reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Salary: £24,500- 28,500 depending on experience.
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week 9am-5.30pm Mon-Fri (flexible working required with some early morning, evening and weekend working)
Pension: Trust contribution of 9%
Holiday: 20 days paid leave plus any statutory bank holidays (28 days).
Contract Length: Rolling 1 year contract depending on funding. The role can be full time or four days a week Monday- Thursday pro rata.

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the North Wales Rivers Trust Team as a project officer. We’re looking for someone, practical, honest and self-motivated. The success of our mission depends on team work and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate this. 

The Project Officer will work with the wider Trust team to deliver restoration projects that  conserve and protect rivers and wildlife across North Wales. This role will report to the Chief Operations Manager. 

The Trust operates across various fields including project delivery, science-based work, consultancy and day-to-day operations. This role may also involve supporting staff in delivering the Trust’s work across these areas. Additionally the Project Officer will provide support to volunteers and interns as needed.

Project Working

The Project Officer will support the practical delivery of projects including: 

  • River Restoration and Engagement

  • In-river restoration (e.g. bank protection etc)

  • Riparian and habitat improvement projects

  • Consenting processes, procurement and contracts

  • Strict compliance with licensing and regulation

  • Funding reporting (in conjunction with the Finance Officer and COO)

  • Invasive Non-Native Species control

  • Project activity coordination, including reporting

  • Project development

  • Developing blogs, communications and social media posts to promote the work of the Trust

  • Assisting with Trust educational projects such as Fish in the Classroom

  • Community and youth work projects

Representation at local and national levels

The Project Officer will be required to work with external organisations and stakeholders at both the local and national levels, and as requested by the Trust’s CEO and board of directors. These are likely to include, but are not limited to: Local Authorities, Natural Resource Wales, Welsh Government, Marine partners , Welsh Fisheries, Landowners, Schools and members of the public. Activities may include meeting with, liaising with and discussing views with these agencies and wider stakeholders.

General Assistance

Given the evolving and broadening nature of the organisation, and in the interests of flexibility, the Project Officer may be required to assist with any aspect of the Trust’s activities as reasonably requested by the Trust’s Chief Operations Manager.  These may include scientific data gathering activities, consultancy works and reporting.

Personal Specifications

Essential

  • A genuine passion for rivers.

  • Drive and motivation.

  • You must live within our catchment area. 

  • You must have a full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Take pride in your work and ensure it is of the highest standard. 

  • The ability to follow licensing guidelines and instructions from managers.

  • A good attitude to teamwork and to the wider goals of the charity.

  • A lifelong learner- ability and desire to keep learning. 

  • Ability to work in a team or alone to undertake fieldwork, some of which will be quite physically demanding.

  • Good report writing and data management skills.

  • Practical conservation skills or a willingness to learn.

  • Understanding of fish, rivers and catchment issues.

  • Flexible attitude to working hours as some early morning, evening and weekend working will be required.

Desirable

  • Welsh speaker

  • Relevant practical experience or degree.

  • Experience in practical project delivery (examples include; conservation, agriculture, building, forestry..) 

  • Experience working in the fisheries or environmental sectors especially within the Rivers Trust movement. 

  • Experience using GIS and map based products

  • Introduction to electrofishing certificate.

Finance & Admin Officer

Job title: Finance & Admin Officer
Location of job: Home based
Post holder reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Salary: Competitive in the region of £13 - £15 p/h dependent on skills and experience.
Working hours: Approximately 4-6 days a month ( minimum of one day a week) at 7 hours per day. There is flexibility in hours to suit the right candidate. Self employed candidates are also welcome to apply.
Contract Length: Part-time ongoing

We have an exciting opportunity to join our charity as a finance and admin officer on a part time basis. 

Are you an experienced office administrator looking to advance your career in a dynamic and fast-paced environment? This is your opportunity to work within a supportive team, in a well-established regional charity that offers the potential for future progression.

In the Finance and Admin officer role, you will be:

  • Responsible for a variety of accounts and financial functions including accounts payable, statement reconciliation, assisting with weekly/monthly payroll and setting up new supplier accounts

  • Research and identify potential funding sources, including grants, foundations, and individual donors.

  • Assist in submitting compelling grant applications and funding proposals.

  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns and events.

  • Track and report on the progress of fundraising efforts and grant applications.

  • Dealing with administration including obtaining quotes, monitoring paperwork, ordering PPE, maintaining documents and data, setting up Health and Safety admin, and assisting managers with orders.

  • Overseeing vehicle and equipment services, including MOTs, and valeting, and coordinating maintenance of equipment by scheduling services, handling repairs, and updating the certificate of conformity annually

  • Carrying out general office duties including emails, calls, managing filing systems, transactions and grant claims. 

  • Filing grant transactions and evidence to grant providers and balancing cash flow. 

To be considered, you will need: 

  • Previous accounts, finance, and administration experience

  • The passion for career growth and the drive to develop

  • IT Skills including Microsoft Office and accounting software

  • Customer service, communication, relationship building and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to adapt to change, work in a fast-paced environment and to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work from home and remain self motivated. 

Desirables

  • Passionate about rivers in North Wales.

  • Knowledge of weekly/monthly payroll preparation, CIS, and PAYE

  • Previous experience in the charity sector
