Launch of 'Prosiect Torgoch' :Preserving Rare Arctic Charr

North Wales Rivers Trust Launches 'Prosiect Torgoch' to Preserve Rare Arctic Charr

On Tuesday, February 6th we held an open evening for our exciting new project; Prosiect Torgoch. The event, attended by members of the community, stakeholders, and environmental enthusiasts, provided an opportunity to learn about the conservation efforts planned to help the rare and threatened Arctic charr, locally known as Torgoch.

Dr. Anthony Smith, the trust's Principal Fisheries Officer, led the evening. He outlined the plans for Prosiect Torgoch, which aims to employ nature-based interventions to enhance water quality, environmental conditions, and crucial habitat for the Torgoch species.

Funded by the Heritage National Lottery, Prosiect Torgoch embodies a collaborative approach, actively engaging the local community in its implementation. Senior Community Engagement Officer, Oisin, was also present and shared upcoming volunteer opportunities that ranged from snorkel surveying and nature walks to tree planting and spot-the-spawning sessions.
