Swimways Project Update

We've been hard at work developing snorkel trails across both Gwynedd and Ynys Môn, with several snorkel events taking place to upskill our community volunteers and scope out all the best spots.

Through the development of these trails we hope to encourage the exploration of local waters and highlight the importance of marine and freshwater conservation. Our goal is to make these beautiful underwater environments accessible to the community while educating participants about the rich biodiversity that exists just below the surface. By providing these opportunities, we aim to foster a deeper connection between people and their natural surroundings, inspiring a sense of responsibility to protect and preserve our coastal ecosystems.

In addition to the snorkel events, we've provided accredited British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) training to participants, enhancing their skills and safety in the water. This training not only equips individuals with the necessary techniques to snorkel safely and confidently but also emphasizes the importance of environmental stewardship. By educating participants about responsible snorkeling practices, we help minimise human impact on marine life and habitats.

We've also been busy mapping invasive species and different habitats throughout the catchment area. This work is crucial in helping us better understand and protect these environments. By identifying and monitoring invasive species, we can take steps to manage their impact on native ecosystems. Similarly, understanding the distribution and health of different habitats allows us to prioritise conservation efforts and implement targeted protection measures.
