Simone’s first week as a River Intern

I have had such a varied first week as a river intern beginning with the floating wetland project on Llyn Maelog. This project was particularly special as it was taking place in my hometown of Rhosneigr and having such a close connection to the Llyn Maelog. It was great working with the Pupils of Ysgol Rhosneigr as that was the primary school I attended so this felt like a very fitting project to begin my internship.

Next on the schedule was a trip over to spend the morning with the pupils of Ysgol Hedd Wyn in Trawsfynydd creating bug habitat in the riparian zone at the Afon Eden site to increase the biodiversity of the ecosystem on the site. The pupils seemed to thoroughly enjoy the activity and I felt it gave them a sense of ownership over the Afon Eden as they were all keen to return to check on the bug pods they had built.

The week ended with a Clean the Cegin litter picking event combined with a river rapping workshop with A Gent Orange in the Cegin Valley followed by a fun afternoon at Ysgol Tregarth creating a huge piece of art with the pupils in response to their thoughts and feelings about The Afon Cegin and what they want for the future of their rivers.
