Exploring Prosiect Torgoch with Ysgol Dolbadarn Pupils

Year 6 pupils from Ysgol Dolbadarn, a primary school in Llanberis, are learning about Prosiect Torgoch. Last week, Poppy visited the pupils to introduce them to the project and highlight the importance of Arctic Charr.

The pupils enjoyed watching our informative animation, which explains the challenges facing the Torgoch and the solutions being implemented.

The pupils then headed down to Llyn Padarn to take part in a hands-on kick-sampling session. During this activity, they collected and examined invertebrates, using them as indicators of water quality. This practical experience also provided an opportunity for the pupils to learn about aquatic ecosystems and the role of invertebrates within food chains. By observing these organisms firsthand, the pupils gained a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of species and the importance of maintaining healthy water habitats.

The pupils were enthusiastic and had lots of questions regarding water quality and how the recent sewage spills into Llyn Padarn will affect their use of the lake.

We will continue working with Ysgol Dolbadarn on Prosiect Torgoch and the issues facing Llyn Padarn. Thanks to National Heritage Lottery Fund for funding this project.
