Living sea walls school workshop

As part of our Living Sea Walls project, we’ve had the pleasure of delivering hands-on workshops to primary schools near the Menai Strait. These sessions are all about connecting young people to their local marine environment and sparking curiosity about how we can better coexist with nature.

The workshops introduced pupils to the concept of living sea walls—structures designed to support marine life by mimicking natural habitats. They learned about the diverse marine creatures found along the Menai Strait and how thoughtful design can create spaces for these species to thrive, especially in areas that have been modified by human intervention.

The highlight of the day was a creative activity where pupils made their own sea wall tiles out of clay. Using natural materials like shells, they pressed patterns into the tiles to replicate textures found in the wild. This practical task not only brought their learning to life but also encouraged them to think about how small actions can make a big difference for wildlife.

These workshops are part of our ongoing commitment to engage communities in environmental stewardship. By working with schools, we hope to inspire the next generation to protect and cherish the incredible ecosystems on their doorstep.

This project is funded by Local Nature Partnerships, Cyngor Ynys Mon and Cyngor Gwynedd.
