Tree Planting with Undeb Bangor
As part of our ongoing efforts under Project Swimways, we recently carried out a tree planting event along the Afon Braint, with a focus on improving river habitats and supporting migratory fish patterns that connect freshwater and marine environments. The event was made even more special by the enthusiastic participation of Bangor University students, who joined us during Undeb's volunteering week.
The sunny weather provided the perfect backdrop for a day of planting native trees along the riverbank. These trees play a crucial role in stabilising the riverbanks, reducing sediment run-off, and providing shade, which helps keep water temperatures stable. In turn, this creates a healthier environment for migratory species, such as salmon and trout, which depend on clear, cool waters for successful breeding.
Everyone involved was eager to learn about the importance of trees in river restoration, and we had some great discussions about how different types of vegetation benefit the river ecosystem. It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about making a positive impact on the environment, and we look forward to watching the trees grow and further enhance the biodiversity of the Afon Braint.
Thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, and to Bangor University for their support in making this event a success!
