River Rapping with Maes G Youth Club

We’re excited to share an update from our River Rapping project with Owen Maclean— and things are really starting to flow!

The talented young people at Maes G Youth Club have been hard at work crafting their own beats, lyrics, and sounds to create an original river rap all about why protecting our local rivers matters. From the rhythm of the water to the voices of the next generation, this project is all about combining creativity, environmental awareness, and community pride.

We’ve been working alongside local rap legend and lyrical poet Owen Maclean, as well as other talented artists from North Wales, to guide the group through the process of writing, performing, and recording their own tracks.

“The energy and imagination from the Maes G crew has been amazing,” said Owen. “They’re mixing powerful messages about nature and pollution with real musical confidence — it’s inspiring to see.”

The final rap will debut in the New Year, alongside our River Rap Workbook — a creative resource designed to help schools, youth groups, and community projects write their own river-inspired raps.

This project is part of our ongoing mission to use music, art, and storytelling to engage young people with the importance of protecting North Wales’s rivers and lakes thanks to the Esmee Fairbairn Blue Spaces programme.

Stay tuned for the big reveal — and get ready to drop your own bars for the rivers!
