VOLUNTEER & HELP TACKLE INVASIVE SPECIES ON THE CLWYD
Last Thursday, we joined forces with North Wales Wildlife Trust for a practical volunteer day tackling Himalayan balsam along the Afon Clwyd.
This invasive species might look pretty, but it causes serious problems for our river habitats. It spreads quickly, outcompeting native plants and dominating the landscape. Because it's so attractive to pollinators, it can also reduce the pollination of our native wildflowers. Worst of all, when it dies back in winter, it leaves riverbanks bare and vulnerable to erosion.
We’re aiming to make a real dent in the balsam population this July – and we need your help! We'll be out every Thursday this month from 10am to 3pm, working at the location ///huts.hangs.magpie. Whether you can spare an hour or the whole day, we’d love for you to join us.
No experience needed – just wear outdoor clothing, bring some gloves if you have them, and get ready to spend time in nature while helping to protect it.
This project is a partnership between North Wales Rivers Trust and North Wales Wildlife Trust and is funded by Dwr Cymru.
