Upskilling Our Lab Dŵr™ Volunteers

Last week our volunteers received a training day from the team at Wild Fish. This was a great session aimed at equipping our volunteers with the tools to start sorting and identifying the invertebrates that have been collected from key rivers within the North Wales Rivers Trust catchment.

The SmartRivers programme allows our Lab Dŵr™ River Hubs to collect professional-grade ecological data on river health using standardised methods aligned with regulatory protocols. It focuses on identifying aquatic invertebrates to create detailed “river fingerprints” that reveal pollution and habitat pressures.

The data is openly shared to build long-term baselines and support evidence-based action for river protection.

Stay tuned for updates on the findings over the next few months. Or to get involved in the project email poppy@northwalesriverstrust.org
