Reflections from the River Summit

Last night, we hosted our inaugural River Summit at Pontio in Bangor, and what an incredible evening it was! The event featured a diverse lineup of engaging talks, exploring both the challenges our rivers face and the inspiring efforts making a difference.

The evening began with reflections on the last 12 months at NWRT and we played our 2024 end of year video.

We then moved onto our speaker panels. Panel 1 ‘Why Save Our Rivers’ featured inspiring talks from Ize Adava - Climate Cymru, Tom Laws - Save Our Rivers and Laura Owen-Sanderson - NWRT.

After the Q & A we moved into our second panel ‘Species On The Brink’ where we heard from Thomas Doherty-Bone - NRW, Nigel Milner, Poppy Backshall - NWRT and Lindsey Cole.

Bringing people together

While the obstacles facing our rivers can sometimes feel overwhelming, we strongly believe that by bringing people together and fostering connections with our rivers, gives us the best chance of seeing healthier ecosystems in the future. And the River Summit felt like it represented this mission, as everyone has a part to play in a healthy future for wildlife, people and planet.

We were also able to recognise inspiring people within the NWRT community and the following awards were given:

Volunteer Of The Year - Charlotte Maloney

Youth Award - Ysgol Rhosneigr

Business Award - Cafe Notos

Community Group Of The Year - Freshwater Conservation Society

Lifetime achievement award - Alan Cuthbert

A huge thankyou to all attendees and everyone involved - see you next year!
