Balsam BashING On the Cegin
A huge thank you to our brilliant volunteers who joined us this morning for a successful Himalayan Balsam bash along the Afon Cegin. Working together, we cleared a significant stretch of riverbank, helping to create space for native plants and reduce the risk of erosion later in the year.
Himalayan Balsam may look pretty, but it's a fast-spreading invasive plant that outcompetes our native species, reduces biodiversity, and leaves riverbanks bare and vulnerable to erosion when it dies back in winter.
By removing it before it sets seed, we're helping to protect the Afon Cegin’s natural habitats – and every hand really does make a difference.
If you’re out and about and spot invasive species like Himalayan balsam, you can help by logging them on the INNS Mapper website: www.innsmapper.org or download the app.
Recording sightings helps build a clearer picture of where invasive plants are spreading so we can better target control efforts.
Diolch yn fawr to everyone who took part – we’ll be back for more bashing soon!
