15.4km of water quality improved in 2023 to date!
Since January we have been out and about on our rivers putting in the work to restore our rivers to good health. In the first three months of this year we have already created 5.176km of riparian habitat, which we wil be planting over the next year. We have fenced out over 1450 livestock from entering the watercourses and provided alternative drinking supplies and we have connected over 26km of connected habitat.
CEO Laura Sanderson says’ This work would not be possible without the co-operation and involvement of the landowners and farmers. They have been supportive of our work and our river restoration officer Liam will be working with them to improve soil health and reduce nutrient loss into waterways over the next few months’.
Our community engagement officer Oisin has also been raising the profile of the North Wales Rivers Trust. This is important work as it helps us reach the audiences who can make a difference ( you at home) and to also attract much needed funding into the organisation in order for us to carry out our work. Community officer Oisin explained;
“It’s been a really great start to the year, we have already been featured in 22 media outlets both regionally and nationally! We have worked with the community for several of our projects including the Torgoch release with Ysgol Waunfawr, speaking events at Bangor University, the launch of the CST with Anglers in our catchment and the Menai Strait Partnership Forum.”
We have lots of exciting developments and projects in the next few months. Make sure you are keeping up to date with our projects and news by subscribing to our newsletter.
