Gravity pump installation in Nant Peris

This week we were back on site in Nant Peris to install a gravity pump and troughs. Effectively preventing cattle from drinking directly from the river. This has a positive impact on both the farm and the surrounding environment.

A solar pump efficiently delivers water to the farm from higher in the catchment using the inbuilt solar panels rather than being connected to the grid.

Previously, cattle had unrestricted access to the river, which posed several environmental challenges:

  1. Water Contamination: Cattle entering the river could contribute to water contamination through their waste, potentially harming aquatic life downstream.

  2. Bank Erosion: Frequent cattle movement to and from the riverbanks led to soil erosion and the destabilisation of the riverbed, further impacting water quality.

  3. Habitat Disturbance: Cattle in direct contact with the river could disturb sensitive aquatic habitats, potentially endangering local wildlife.

Phase three will consist of wetland scrapes and planting to compliment the fencing and pump work.
