Potential Pollution Incident Ruthin

We are currently monitoring the storm drain at Ruthin. It has been noted that the storm drain is releasing stormwater and raw sewage into the Clywd river during low water levels.

The incidents noted in October have been passed on to NRW to investigate and Dwr Cymru.

Under the ‘Environmental Information Regulations’ duty to make available environmental information on request, we have asked Dwr Cymru for further information from 15th September until 25th October 2022, including:-

  • release volumes

  • times and dates.

  • context regarding why each release was permitted and what they have done to immediately rectify this and avoid future releases.

It is in everyone’s best interests to work tirelessly to protect the Clwyd catchment. We will keep you updated on the response received from Dwr Cymru.

If you are concerned about a pollution incident, ensure you take photographs and video including the date/ time and location.

Please contact Natural Resource Wales here. If the incident involves sewage and releases, then please also contact Dwr Cymru (or the relevant water board) and request further information under the ‘Environmental Information Regulations’. You can email them on:-
