Living Sea Walls- Menai Strait Habitat Expansion Project
North Wales Rivers Trust, Menai Strait Partnership Forum, Local Nature Partnership and Anglesey Council Join Forces to Boost Migratory Fish and Biodiversity
In a significant step towards preserving and enhancing the delicate ecosystem of the Menai Strait, the North Wales Rivers Trust is proud to announce a generous funding allocation of £130,000. This substantial grant, provided by the Local Nature Partnership and Anglesey Council, will be instrumental in expanding crucial habitats for migratory fish and a variety of other species.
Collaboration for Environmental Success
This exciting venture forms part of the ongoing collaboration between the North Wales Rivers Trust and the Menai Strait Partnership Forum, an alliance dedicated to safeguarding and restoring the Menai Strait's ecological richness.
Living Sea Walls: A Unique Approach
Central to this groundbreaking project is the installation of living sea walls along the harbor walls of the Menai Strait. These innovative structures will serve as dynamic habitats, fostering the growth of essential underwater vegetation and marine life. By creating thriving ecosystems within the harbor walls, we aim to bolster the populations of migratory fish and support a diverse array of species that rely on this unique environment.
Community Engagement and Conservation
A key aspect of this initiative is community involvement. Recognising the importance of local knowledge and passion, we have allocated funding to train community volunteers in scuba and snorkel certification. These certified volunteers will play a vital role in surveying and monitoring the project's impact over the course of 12 months. Their contributions will help us gather valuable data on the development and effectiveness of the living sea walls.

We invite all members of our community who share our commitment to environmental conservation to get involved in this exciting project. Whether you're an experienced diver or simply someone who cares about the health of our local waters, there are numerous ways to contribute.
