How to kick sample
A great activity for this summer holiday. Find out how healthy your local river is by studying the invertebrates. A kick sample involves collecting a sample of invertebrates with a net. We put them into a sampling tray and use an ID guide to record the different types. This gives an indication of the health of the river, for example a high number of true mayfly is a sign of a healthy river. Don’t forget to download our ‘River Bug Bingo’ card and see how many you can find!
Liam has made a short video to show you how. You don’t need expensive equipment- just a tray and a net.
