NWRT team present at the Wales Freshwater Pearl Mussel Strategy meeting.

Laura and Liam were thrilled to be invited to speak at the Welsh Freshwater Pearl Mussel Strategy meeting, where they presented our river restoration efforts on the Eden and our community work in partnership with Eryri National Park. It was a fantastic day out, highlighted by the impressive work happening at the NRW hatchery and Jon's dedication to successfully breeding juvenile mussels for release into the river to bolster dwindling adult populations.

To support this vital work, we have been collaborating with a fantastic team of farmers to restore fish spawning grounds, reduce sediment, and improve water quality. It was also inspiring to hear from a local farmer who has been trialing innovative farming techniques to enhance the water quality of the Afon Irfon.

Special thanks to NRW’s Thomas Doherty Bone for organising the event and sharing his expertise on the efforts across Wales.

The group head out on to the Afon Irfon to hear from a local farmer about his work to protect the river.

Laura and Liam present the work that has been going on to preserve a stretch on the Eden in partnership with NRW, Prysor anglers, Dollgellau Anglers and Eryri National Park.
